BANZAI: The Great Teppanyaki Theater | An Authentic Japanese Buffet in Manila

Bry decided to celebrate his birthday at Banzai, an authentic Japanese buffet located along Seaside Boulevard near SM Mall of Asia. This buffet restaurant recently opened last April 2014 and is lead by the celebrity Marvin Agustin's team.

We had a reservation at 12noon for four persons. We arrived just in time, hungry and excited to try this new buffet. Once we entered the glass doors, we were greeted in Japanese language. We first roamed around the place to see what they offer. I was amazed with the Japanese interior, especially the lanterns which made it feel like I'm walking around Tokyo.

The place is also quite huge. Surprisingly, there were a lot of vacant seats when we arrived. I expected to wait even though we already had a reservation since that's what always happen when we dine in a buffet restaurant.  The only down side that hit me the most was the poor air-conditioning. Our place near the sushi area had a nice comfy couch but we can't feel the cool air which literally made us sweat. Another factor should be the live kitchen. You can find hot surface almost at all stations, so be careful especially when you're dining with kids.

Pastry Section. They had a pastry which had green tea filling.

We started with a Miso Soup and some takoyaki just beside the Japanese Pizza station. Then we passed by the ramen station since we thought it would fill us up right away. We proceeded to the Agemono Station which consists of the tonkatsu and veryyyy fat tempuras! Yumm! Then we came back to try their Japanese Pizzas :)

Make Your Own Ramen Station

My favorite section! I can't remember how much crabstick wrapped in bacon I ate. My tastebuds just loved it!

Tonkatsu was okay but wasn't that tender but still worth a try!

Don't forget the tempuruhh!

Condiments

Salad Section

The Roasted Pork is also not to miss! The skin was so cripsy and the meat was so tender. Top it up with gravy for more savoury flavor!

Teppan Station. I spoiled myself with so much salmon! :)

The chicken teriyaki and the beef misono was a bit bland.

Tired of Jpanese rice? Go try Teppanyaki rice for your sides! :)

Sushi Section

Their long Shanghai rolls were also great. I partnered it with the teppanyaki rice and it was the best!

The dessert station consists of green tea and red velvet cakes, strawberry and chocolate mousse, creme brulee!!! Make your own slurpee, fresh fruits, and very chewy cookies. We had blue and original lemonade for our drinks. They have unlimited flow of sodas, nestle iced teas and lemonades which is already included in the buffet price. We were expecting to have some fruit shake but it comes with an additional cost.

Here are my plates :)

Happy Happy Birthday to my baby! I always thank God for giving me someone like you, a patient, understanding, sweet and caring best friend, boyfriend, food and travel buddy!

One thing that's lacking in this Japanese buffet was to make the birthday celebrants feel special. They didn't sing us a birthday song and there was no sweet Happy Birthday Cake :(

Before leaving, don't forget to visit the Japanese Artwork near the entrance. You can wear the costumes and take some funny photographs. We decided to skip wearing the costumes since it was kind of smelly na. haha!

Over all, we enjoyed the Japanese buffet but there are still some areas of improvement such the poor air conditioning and the "Happy Birthday" song and cake. The interior, food and concept was great. If you love Japanese food, then this is the perfect place to feed your cravings. The sushi and sashimi were so fresh, you'll surely come back for more.
